The opening sequence I refer to: ua-cam.com/video/pBTBksrfsgI/v-deo.html
Movies I talk about so it's easier for y'all to google titles if you want:
The Mystery of Mamo (has various names but that's the main one in the US)
The Castle of Cagliostro
The Koike specials I refer to are Jigen's Gravestone, Goemon's Bloodspray, and Fujiko's Lie. I'd recommend the middle one over the others.

    I have theory : maybe the natural fear we have we need it in the ice age to discrimination human from neanderthal and help us to fight and survive because the competition in the past between these two species and the features like bale skin , Sunken eyes, sharp teeth, and a long face it’s all features of neanderthal or Denisovans or any other Hominid and if we talk about why it’s in all humans even Africans that didn’t They interacted with Neanderthals. This may be because they interacted with other species, such as Homo erectus. Accordingly, there is evidence that there is Neanderthal DNA in Africans, so it may be that there was a migration or ancient contact , interrupted contact.

    Early humanoid robotics have the same issue that early software had.. they were ugly as fuck and just didn't coincide with most people's expectations. You take an engineer and ask him to build a face and put lipstick on it then everyone is surprised by how utterly hideous it is. Then you take a semi-realistic looking humanoid robot with some actual design and people appreciate it.

    This is fantastic! I was a little surprised Bill Tracy wasn't mentioned. I know you were limited on how much you could cover, but he built the "Phantasmagoria" that I grew up loving at the local Bell's Amusement Park. His work pushed haunted houses and dark rides in a more gory direction than previous props had. There was an abandoned mansion about four miles from where I grew up. The Jaycees turned it into a haunted house at Halloween at the line to get in went down the street! I was way too young to get in at the time and by the time I could have gone, they had stopped.

    • @StrucciMovies
      @StrucciMovies 29 днів тому

      Hey! Do you know of any books or documentaries or articles that mentioned Tracy? I did as much research as I could at the time, I am not someone in the community so I only had access to what I had access to if that makes sense. If you have recs if I do anything else with this project (I have considered writing a book) I'll try to include them And that sucks about you missing the house! It sounds cool. At least there are a lot of cool ones around now!

    I find it hard to not get parasocial despite my efforts to avoid it, especially if I’ve watched some kind of content over a long period of time. I definitely had an awkward moment with a youtuber I met when I noticed that maybe I was acting a little too familiar with them.

    I see a lot of comments here about some of the common uncanny triggers overlapping with disabled or autistic people’s behavior, and I definitely think there’s something to that, but I think the root of the problem is just unexpected behavior. So for a lot of people, behavior like not meeting the eyes or clearly forced smiles can be unsettling, but I think that’s because it warns the brain that you’re being deceived. A lot of the “off” behavior that triggers your brain is an attempt to register whether you’re safe with someone or if you might be murdered. There are lots of stories and actors performances about how unsettling serial killers or psychopaths can be, or the cognitive dissonance of NOT sensing any danger but knowing you should.

    I think Jack recognises now the danger of how he was giving too much of himself to his fans for so many years, there's been a noticeable step back and shift in his videos ever since the lady who creeped him out at a convention (Anthony Padilla interview). I'm glad that he has spoke about parasocial relationships and how he made mistakes earlier in his career by not creating enough boundaries, hopefully that will help spread awareness and serve as a warning to other content creators and their fans.

    thank you for this video! I revisit it rewatch it every so often, it's a great exploration and a good meditation for me on this topic. This video is what got me into The Mountain Goats and they have become my favorite band-- I have since shared their music with many people I love. Anyway, the way it covers parasociality in particular is something I hadn't seen before when I watched this in 2018. It really opened up my way of thinking surrounding how we treat public figures and, in the age of the internet, sometimes just strangers online. I appreciate all the time and effort you put into this.

    A bit of a late comment, but whatever. This was actually my first exposure to Lupin III and is actually one of my favorite films as of now. The animation is objectively a work of art, the music is great, and the characters are good, in my opinion. Admittedly, I do like the relationship between Lupin and Laetitia - I don't know how much of a hot take that is - and like to see it expanded in a potential sequel. I actually like the more toned down nature of this movie more than the (admittedly out of context) bits I've seen of other parts of the series. From what I've seen of the rest of the series, theres too much sexual content for my liking, which is why I don't really see myself watching too much more of the series. Recently, tho, I have seen... most of, Castle of Cagilostro. I say most of because the Blu-ray I watched it on messed up a bit here and there. I also think it's really good, and - like with The First - I like how its more tame compared to other Lupin media. However - again, maybe a hot take - I actually kinda found myself liking The First more, though I do wanna see Castle of Cagilostro again some time for a fairer comparison. Back to The First, however, I do acknowledge that it isn't a perfect film, and I do see where most of your problems lie. At the end of the day, however, I still find that it's a great film. Sorry for the wall of text.

    My partner and I watched The First together, and while we were pretty negative to the first half, once the second half rolled around, we were screaming with delight over the action and character moments with the five. The movie is really worth it for watching with your loved ones and the beautiful action and animation, along with a cast that has so much respect for the characters and their history, really makes it worth it.

    I love Butcher in this show because usually you hear, "I hate that guy." muttered then after a brief opening scene where they're mean they mellow out. Not Butcher. Butcher is a single minded hateful asshole who burns, insults, and uses everyone around him and I really like a straightforward depiction of an asshole character actually justifying WHY everyone he meets ends up hating him.

    I was honestly pretty surprised when you mentioned prosthetics because well, all the people I know have never found them unnerving or out of place, sure you notice them and think 'oh', but after that, you just go back to whatever you were doing. My violin teacher has a puppet doll leg in lieu of an actual leg and I've never looked at it and thought it was creepy, even when I first met him, though this all probably just has to do with how the people in my hometown have a tendency to just mind their business and have manners

    I really don't like the idea of photorealistic human robots. We already live in a world where people now have to copyright their voices to keep people from stealing them using AI. What possible benefit could there be to make photorealistic humans (prosthetics don't count) that isn't immensly outweighed by every way that technology could be abused? If you can steal someone's voice and recreate their likeness perfectly, what happens when someone dies? Will death even matter anymore if we can recreate a person almost perfectly? What need would their be for humans when you can just make one that will do everything you program it?
